Die Huldigung an Venus
In feinmalerischer Manier und subtil nuanciertem Kolorit ausgeführte, aufwendig arrangierte Szene in antiker Säulenarchitektur. Vor der erhaben inszenierten Statue der Venus bietet eine Vielzahl von Frauen bunte Blumengirlanden und -bouquets als Opfergaben dar. Stil- und motivtypisches Werk Hoets, der bei Warnard van Rysen und Cornelius van Poelenburgh, einem der ersten niederländischen Landschaftsmaler im italienischen Stil, lernte. 1672 ließ sich Hoet in Den Haag nieder, hielt sich anschließend einige Zeit in Amsterdam und Paris auf und kehrte über Brüssel in die Niederlande zurück, wo er 1697 zusammen mit Hendrick Schoock eine Zeichenakademie in Utrecht gründete. 1714 ging er erneut nach Den Haag, wo er den Rest seines Lebens verbrachte. Er schuf überwiegend religiöse und mythologische Motive, die er - beeinflusst durch seinen Lehrer Cornelius van Poelenburgh - in italienischer Landschaft mit Ruinen oder in antiker Säulenarchitektur mit Statuen inszenierte. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt ein treffliches Beispiel dafür dar, vergleichbare Werke befinden sich u.a. in der Bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlung im Neuen Schloss Bayreuth (vgl.
