"Bactrian". Original title
Bronze, dark brown patina, 1971. Artist-Signet ("Phoenix"), numbered 4/10 and foundry stamp "GUSS BARTH RINTELN". CR. Rudloff 977. On a rectangular plinth, in the end, the camel standing to the left of the viewer is oriented toward the head. Modern stylized, formally, on the Essentials of the Constitution of the animal reduced figure of what the character brings attitude and essence. In 1959 Marcks had created the granite sculpture of a resting trample animal; in 1971 he created after intensive studies (many sculptors-drawings in the Gerhard Marcks house, Bremen) this Bronze sculpture. Marcks had in 1908, influenced by his Studio colleagues, Richard Scheibe and August Gaul, as an animal sculptor started and was involved early on with animal figures to the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession. After he had been a master at the Weimar Bauhaus until 1933 as a sculptor at the art school Burg Giebichenstein in Halle/Saale, Germany, he dedicated himself to after 1945 strengthened domestic and exotic animals as a motif. H. 38 cm.
