[GIORNALI-ROMANTICISMO] - La Biblioteca Italiana. Milan: Fortunato Stella, 1816-1825.

An important pre-unitary periodical initially directed by Giuseppe Acerbi, the "Biblioteca Italiana" was published in Milan from 1816 to 1840. The first issue opens with the famous article by Madame de Stael "Sulla maniera e la utilità delle traduzioni" which started the controversy between classicists-romantics which determined the detachment of the romantic writers from the newspaper in 1818 and the birth of the Conciliatore. The newspaper, therefore, remained a point of reference for the classicists and pro-Austrians on whom it also depended financially.

8vo (230 x 140mm). 92 issues in 91 volumes (issues 74 and 75 issued together) from no. 1 of January 1816 to no. 118 of October 1825 (the missing numbers are: 4,12,16,24-26,39,40,46,60-63,90,96-98,101-105,109,111,114, and number 99 is incomplete). Printed editorial wrappers (some wear). The volumes have not been collated and are sold not subject to return. [WITH] a letter from Ottaviano Targioni Tozzetti, an important botanist and father-in-law of Fanny Targioni Tozzetti. (91)
