China. Warring States to Western Han dynasty.

High fired stoneware, so-called proto-porcelain with ash glaze. Reddish Patina by Erdlagerung. In imitation of an archaic Bronze (zhong) as grave goods. Of pointed oval Form, below arch-shaped cut out. The top of a cylindrical shank and an Eyelet as the suspension. The bell is divided into rectangular fields, each of which is structured with three large and many small studs in a diamond pattern. The tapered smooth field between them is used in the case of the bronze bells to the Beat of different sounds. In the lower area of a complex multi-part taotie is located on each side of mask in Relief
. Height approx 59cm. Matching stand made of Plexiglas. Condition A/B.
