A GOLD TINDER CORD CASE AND A MONOGRAM PENDANT WITH THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF BLACKHEADS circa 1900 Gold, enamelled in translucent red. The case marked '585' and master's mark. Enamel minimally chipped. 4.4 / 5.2 cm long, 35 gr. The Brotherhood of Blackheads (German: Bruderschaft der Schwarzhäupter; Estonian: Mustpeade vennaskond; Latvian: Melngalvju bralibas) was an association primarily composed of unmarried male merchants, ship-owners, and foreigners, active in Livonia (modern-day Estonia and Latvia) from the mid-14th century until 1940. Initially founded as a military organization, its focus gradually shifted over time toward social and economic activities. By the end of the Great Northern War in 1721, the Brotherhood had transitioned into a predominantly social organization. Though its influence in Livonia ended in 1940, the Brotherhood still exists in present-day Hamburg, Germany.

Die Schwarzhäupter, auch als Schwarzenhäupter bekannt, waren Vereinigungen von vorwiegend (nord)deutschen Kaufleuten in baltischen Städten wie Riga, Reval (heute Tallinn), Pernau und Dorpat (heute Tartu). Diese Verbände entstanden ab etwa 1400 und orientierten sich an den Patriziergesellschaften der Städte des Heiligen Römischen Reiches.
