Doppelblatt, Blindprägesiegel, ausgestellt Downing Street, 10.6.1898, OU / 4.7.1898, OU, dazu das Statutenbuch sowie das Telegramm mit der Verleihungsbegründung vom 20.5.1898, die sich wie folgt liest: In recognition of your valuable services connected with the salvage of Victorious, the Queen has been pleased to confer upon you an companionship in the order of St. Michael and St. George.
Das Schlachtschiff HMS Victorious lief am 16. Februar 1898 bei der Einfahrt in den Hafen von Port Said auf Grund, konnte jedoch zwei Tage später wieder freigesetzt werden und ihre China Fahrt, nach kurzer Instandsetzung, fortsetzen.
