Gleichseitige Fibel mit breitem, halbrundem Bügel. Kopf und Fuß sind in Form eines stilisierten Tierkopfes gestaltet. Extrem reich dekorierter Bügel mit fein geschnittenem und graviertem Dekor, Emaille und Nielloeinlagen. Die scharniergelagerte Nadel zu zwei Drittel erhalten. Außergewöhnlich großes und hochwertig gearbeitetes Exemplar. Bronze mit grüner Edelpatina. Länge 6,8 cm.

Provenienz: US-amerikanische Privatsammlung. Erworben bei Hermann Historica, Auktion 45, Los 1094. Zuvor aus süddeutscher Privatsammlung.

A large Roman bow brooch, 2nd century
Equilateral brooch with large, half-round bow. Head and base in form of a stylized animal head. Extreme richly decorated bow with finely cut and engraved decoration, enamel and niello inlays. Two-thirds of the hinge-mounted pin well preserved. Exceptionally large specimen made with highly experienced craftsmanship. Bronze with green precious patina. Length 6.8 cm.

Provenance: US private collection, acquired at Hermann Historica, auction 45, lot 1094, who received it from a South German private collection.
