Thailand. Rattanakosin-Zeit (ab 1782). 19./20. Jahrhundert

Bronze mit Lackvergoldung, bedeckt von einer dunklen Patina. In Reisekleidung eines Mönchs mit gegürtetem Gewand und einem Bündel mit Almosenschale über der linken Schulter stehend und den runden Mönchs-Fächer haltend. Das Gewand ist mit feinen Mustern in Relief verziert, wie auch der Fächer.

Phra Malai besucht Himmel und Hölle - hier ist er bei seinem Besuch in der Unterwelt gezeigt - und wird hier von den leidenden Seelen gebeten, die noch lebenden Angehörigen zu warnen. Diese sind teils als Skelette und von Dämonen gequält dargestellt. Höhe 116.5cm, Breite 32cm, Tiefe 43cm. Zustand A/B.
