Weißporzellan. Auf einem Felssockel hockende Affenmutter mit geöffnetem Mund und herausgestreckter Zunge, in der Rechten zwei Walnüsse haltend. Sich mit der linken Hand an die Nase fassend. Zu den Füßen sitzendes, sich emporstreckendes Affenjunges. Naturalistische, reliefplastische Fellzeichnung. Entw. wohl Johann Gottlieb Kirchner. Modell-Nr. 23. Minim. rest.; Brandriss. Schwertermarke und Weißwarenstempel. H. 57 cm.
Neuausformung aus der Pfeifferzeit nach einem Modell um 1730. Die Modelleure Johann Gottlieb Kirchner und Johann Joachim Kaendler schufen eine Reihe von Affenplastiken auf Bestellung August des Starken für das Japanische Palais. Die vielfachen Durchbrüche und Überkreuzungen der Gliedmaßen stellen nicht nur eine technische Herausforderung an das Material dar, sondern kennzeichnen zudem den dynamisch-bewegten Moment der Gruppenkomposition. In den Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden befindet sich neben dieser Plastik (Inv.-Nr. PE 718) eine ähnliche Ausformung mit zwei Affenjungen (Inv.-Nr. PE 719).
