A finely crafted Thai Buddha head, Sukhothai, 15th century
A bronze head of Buddha, finely modelled with slightly bow-shaped mouth, the round face flanked by pendulous earlobes, the hair in tight curls. The right ear is missing. Broken at the neck. Excellent patina. Socketed. Height 8.5 cm, with socket 14 cm.


Provenance: South German private collection. Acquired in the 1990s in a Zurich auction house, Switzerland. Previously Swiss private collection Charles A. Béguelin (1888 - 1979), who worked as an architect for the Siamese court in Bangkok from 1912 to 1934.

Bronzekopf des Buddha, Thailand, Sukhothai, ca. 15. Jhdt.
Fein gearbeiteter, höchst anmutiger Buddhakopf mit Buckellockenfrisur. Dünner Bronzeguss über Tonkern. Das rechte Ohr fehlt. Am Hals gebrochen. Schöne Patina. Gesockelt. Höhe 8,5 cm, mit Sockel 14 cm.

Provenienz: Süddeutsche Privatsammlung, erworben in den 1990er Jahren in einem Züricher Auktionshaus. Zuvor Schweizer Privatsammlung Charles A. Béguelin (1888 - 1979), der von 1912 bis 1934 als Architekt für den siamesischen Hof in Bangkok tätig war.
