Lot 2106 | Large ceremonial knife and a small Stele with anthropomorphic representation, Taíno culture, Caribbean sea, 10. - 15. Century
Ceremonial knife made of grey-green rock. Short, broad blade, which becomes a "handle" that shows a crouching, stylized figure with round eyes and open mouth. Intact. Length 37 cm. A flat, oval stone figure made of light-coloured rock with a stylized, grim head. Deep, oval eye sockets, a flat nose and a wide, open mouth with indicated teeth pattern suggests an apotropaic function of the figure. Adorned forehead with a Change. Intact. Length of 15.9 cm. Provenance: From the collection of a South German artist, acquired in the 1960s, in the art trade. Condition: II
