Großfürst Mikhail Nikolaevitch war im Russisch-Türkischen Krieg (1877 - 1878) Oberbefehlshaber der russischen Truppen im Kaukasus und wurde im April 1878 zum Generalfeldmarschall ernannt. 1881 wurde er von Alexander III. anstelle seines älteren Bruders Konstantin zum Vorsitzenden des Staatsrates ernannt und hatte dieses Amt bis zu seinem Tode inne.

Gold and silver thread. Elaborately worked with a raised, crowned cipher "A II" in silver for Tsar Alexander II and "M" in gold, presumably for Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich, above crossed marshal's batons. Crimson lining. In immaculate condition.
Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich was Commander-in-Chief of the Russian troops in the the Caucasus during the Russo-Turkish war (1877 - 1878) and was promoted to General Field Marshal in April 1878. In 1881, he was appointed Chairman of the State Council by Alexander III, instead of his older brother Konstantin, and held this office until his death.
Extremely rare find of historical significance.
