Gilt bronze, carved ivory, onyx base. Signed "D.H. Chiparus". The surface of the bronze and ivory is somewhat dull.. Height 21, base 30 cm x 17 cm.

Figurengruppe auf naturalistischem Sockel gestaltet mit drei Kindern, die spielerisch aus einer, von einem weiteren Kind geschobenen Schubkarre purzeln. Mit der Formgestaltung seiner chryselephantinen Skulpturen zählt der gebürtige Rumäne und seit 1912 in Paris tätige Chiparus zu den bedeutendsten Künstlern des Art Déco. Seine erste Serie bestand aus Kinderskulpturen, die dem Stil des Realismus sehr nahe kamen. Sie wurde 1914 auf dem Pariser Salon der Société des Artistes Indépendants gezeigt, wo er von 1914 bis 1928 durchgehend ausstellte.
