Post Lot Text
Valuable evidence of the friendships and emulation characteristic of the Surrealist movement, this collection of works on paper by Hans Bellmer has remained with the artist’s family until now.
These drawings, with their delicate gouache highlights and the immediacy of the graphite-rendered features, exemplify Bellmer’s virtuoso drawing skills.
While the intimate character of these works demonstrates the tie between Hans Bellmer and Hans Arp, Victor Brauner, Marcel Duchamp, Wifredo Lam, Man Ray and Roberto Matta, this moving collection also provides a glimpse of the personalities of some of the greatest avant-garde artists of the first half of the 20th century.
