This painting belongs to the early to 1870 works produced by the artist, as it is dated Jeroen chapel as an expert from the RKD in The Hague. 1869 Mesdag in The Hague, was established, where he took quickly a leadership role in the art scene and the artists society Pulchri Studio. During longer stays in Scheveningen, he painted directly on the sea. Already in 1870, Mesdag was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Salon, 1873-1896, he was also awarded at the international exhibitions in London, Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Berlin and Florence. Mesdags, the largest and most important work is the 1881 consummate, monumental, and up to today in The Hague to visit the Panorama with a 14 x 120 m, great view of Scheveningen.
