Die historische Klarinette in C, mit altersbedingten Gebrauchsspuren, ist mit diversen Brandstempeln „A. Kraus, Augsburg“ sowie der Augsburger Zirbelnuss versehen. Das aus Buchsbaum gefertigte Instrument besteht aus 4 Segmenten + Mundstück. Zu den sechs Klappen aus Messing besitzt das Holzblasinstrument 6 Fingerlöcher auf der Vorderseite, ein Fingerloch seitlich und ein Daumenloch auf der Rückseite. Die schwarzen Ringe bestehen aus Horn.
Anton Kraus (1813-1901) absolvierte seine Lehre zum Blasinstrumentenbauer in Eger. Danach tritt er in die Werkstatt Johann Martin Fenebergs ein und heiratete dessen Witwe Katharina Feneberg. Schnell avancierte er zu einem der führenden Instrumentenbauwerkstätten in Bayern. Das hohe Niveau seiner Arbeiten lässt sich an seinen erhaltenen Instrumenten belegen. Weitere Instrumente von Anton Kraus sind u.a. eine Querflöte und ein Czakan im Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt.

HISTORICAL CLARINET IN C CIRCA 1850/60, ANTON KRAUS, AUGSBURG
This historical clarinet in C with signs of use due to its age bears various brand marks "A. Kraus, Augsburg" as well as the Augsburg pine nut. The instrument is made of boxwood and consists of 4 segments + mouthpiece. In addition to the six brass keys, the woodwind instrument has 6 finger holes on the front, one finger hole on the side and one thumb hole on the back. The black rings are made of horn.
Anton Kraus (1813-1901) completed his apprenticeship as a wind instrument maker in Eger. He then joined Johann Martin Feneberg's workshop and married the widowed Katharina Feneberg. He quickly advanced to become one of the leading instrument makers in Bavaria. The high standard of his work can be seen in his surviving instruments. Other instruments by Anton Kraus include a flute and a czakan in the Ingolstadt City Museum.
