Polished steel jewellery originated in England in the 18th century. The small faceted steel buttons have a gemstone-like shine, which allowed them to evolve from simple imitations of diamonds into a jewellery form in their own right.
The proceeds will go to a charitable foundation.
Condition: in good condition for its age, traces of wear in the form of minor to more
severe scratches, verso traces of rust visible in places. The miniature of the boy has a
crack across the portrait.
