Lot 6 | Höchst selten! Bronzefarbene Medaille der XX. Olympiade München 1972,
| Extremely rare! Bronze colored medal of the XX. Munich Olympics 1972, the example offered here is probably either an extremely rare test sample/test coining, which was actually canceled and then melted down, or a strike as waste. The indentations on the edge and the embossing of Castor and Pollux on both sides speak for cancellation. It is no longer possible to understand how this specimen got out, since the medals to be destroyed were usually handed over to be melted down. It is also not known how many such specimens have come down to our time. The weight is about 132 g. The thickness varies from approx. 4.5 mm to approx. 2.5 mm. The diameter is approx. 74 mm. As a result, this specimen does not correspond to the original winner's medal in terms of weight, thickness or diameter. On the obverse the traditional goddess of victory, holding a palm tree in her left hand and a crown of victory in her right hand. The reverse shows two naked young men, Kastor and Pollux, the twin sons of Zeus and Leda. The medals were minted in the Bavarian Mint. In a letter, a copy of which accompanies this lot, the specimen is described as an "original misprint" with "very great collector's value". A metal cast is offered as an accompaniment together with the medal, an athlete with a laurel branch in a victory pose, height approx. 27 cm. Signs of age and use
