Zweiteiliger, runder Holzkern mit rosévergoldetem Eisenblech, ummantelt und graviert, sowie mit kleinem Emaille-Portrait des römischen Arztes Aulus Cornelius Celsus (ca. 25 vor Christus - ca. 50 n. Chr.) verziert. Innen alte Sammlungs- und Inventaretiketten sowie im Deckel in Tinte undeutlich bezeichnet. Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Vergoldung minimal berieben. Durchmesser 6,9 cm.

Provenienz: Großherzogliche Kunstkammer-Sammlung Baden-Baden, Inventar Koelitz von 1883, Inv.-Nr. 3237: "Runde Dose, Kern Holz mit Goldblech bekleidet, graviert. Auf dem Deckel Medaillon, Profilkopf aus Porzellan, bezeichnet "Aulus". 18. Jahrhundert, Ende 2/6 1/2".

A French courtly pillbox with a portrait of the physician Aulus Cornelius Celsus, 18th century, from the estate of the grand dukes of Baden-Baden
Two-part, circular wooden core, encased in rosé-gilt sheet iron, engraved and embellished with a small enamelled portrait of the Roman physician Aulus Cornelius Celsus (circa 25 B.C. - circa 50 A.D.). The inside with old collection and inventory labels, the lid illegibly labelled in ink. Showing traces of age and use. The gilding with minimal rubbing. Diameter 6.9 cm.

Provenance: Grand-Ducal Kunstkammer collection, Baden-Baden, Koelitz inventory of 1883, inv. no. 3237 (tr.): "A round box, wood core, plated in sheet gold, engraved. A medallion on the lid, a profile head in porcelain, labelled "Aulus". 18th century, end 2/6 1/2".
