Achilles signed among the daughters of Lykomedes on the bottom left (under the blue skirt) "CHolsteyn". Oil on wood. 64 x 95 cm. Restoration. Damage To The Frame. Achilles was disguised by his mother Thetis as a girl and in the ranks of the daughters of Lykomedes in Skyros hidden. Odysseus, as a merchant in disguise, comes to Lykomedes and the daughters of robes and weapons. Achilles, still in girl's clothes, reveals herself as he grabs the only one of the weapons (Ovid, metamorphoses, 13, 160-170). The painting is listed in the database of the Rijksbureaus voor art historical Dokumentatie, The Hague, under no. 2492. Provenance: Carola van Ham, Cologne, auction, 14.
