HIP CLOTH (HI'I WORAPI) WITH FLORAL MOTIFS FOR A GENTLEMAN - Indonesia, Savu, probably mid 20th c. - Cotton, multicolored warp. Sewn together lengthwise from two panels of unequal width. Twisted warp fringes. In the stripes on dark brown background so-called Boda motifs. Here the red color is overdyed with blue. The intermediate stripes are black. The textile has a soft grip and the surface is slightly rubbed by prolonged use. However, the colors are still quite fresh. - From a Swiss private collection, acquired in the 1980s and 1990s - Cf. Baumwolle, mehrfarbiger Kettikat. Aus zwei ungleich breiten Bahnen längs zusammengenäht. Gezwirnte Kettfransen. In den Streifen auf dunkelbraunem Fond sog. Boda-Motive. Hier ist die rote Farbe überfärbt mit Blau. Die Zwischenstreifen schwarz. Das Textil hat einen weichen Griff und die Oberfläche ist leicht berieben durch längeren Gebrauch. Die Farben sind jedoch noch recht frisch.
