1963. Farbsiebdruck. 30,5 x 42,5 cm. R. u. mit Bleistift sign. und dat. Ida Kerkovius 63, l. u. num. 24/43, unter Passepartout und Glas gerahmt, ungeöffnet. - Deutsche Malerin und Textilgestalterin. Nach einer Ausbildung zur Zeichenlehrerin in Riga bereiste sie Italien und wurde 1903 in Dachau für fünf Monate Schülerin von A. Hölzel, dessen flächig-farbiger Stil für sie prägend werden sollte. 1908 kehrte sie nach einer Italienreise als Meisterschülerin Hölzels nach Deutschland zurück, es folgten erste Ausstellungen, u.a. 1912 bei H. Walden in Berlin und zusammen mit W. Baumeister, O. Schlemmer und J. Itten in Freiburg. 1920-23 besuchte sie am Weimarer Bauhaus die Webereiklasse, belegte aber auch Kurse bei P. Klee und J. Itten. Ihre erste große Einzelausstellung in Stuttgart 1930 belegte ihre Emanzipation von ihrem Lehrmeister Hölzel. Trotz eingeschränkter Arbeitsmöglichkeiten unter den Nationalsozialisten und des Verlustes des größten Teil ihres Werkes im Bombenkrieg konnte sie nach 1945 an frühere Erfolge anknüpfen. K. erhielt 1954 das Bundesverdienstkreuz, 1958 wurde sie Professorin in Stuttgart. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer.
