Copy in contemporary vellum of the third edition of this renowned illustrated collection of astronomical poems with philological commentary by the humanist Jacob Micyllus (1503-1558), published for the first time in 1535 and accompanied by the works of other authors: Palaephatus, Fulgentius, Phurnutus , Albricus, Aratus and Proclus. One of the moon's craters was named Hyginus to pay homage to this astronomy treatise.
Folio (326 x 210mm). Title with printer's device, numerous woodcuts of constellations in text, woodcut initials, with final blank (light browning and spotting, final two leaves reinforced at the outer margin). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (restored, joints reinforced, modern ties). Provenance: private stamp on title.
