CAMILLI, Camillo (d. 1615). Imprese illustri di diversi. Venice: Francesco Ziletti, 1586.

First edition of Camillo's emblem book, illustrated by Girolamo Porro. Porro's fine, enigmatic engravings and architectural borders are followed by iconographic explanations. Here, the devices of illustrious figures are treated as emblems, with their historical and allegorical symbolism analyzed by Camillo, along with an appropriate verse motto. Mortimer Italian 99.

Quarto (202 x 136mm). Three title pages with engraved architectural borders, copperplates by Girolamo Porro (some spots and stains, with rust stains affecting first gathering; some sheets browned; a few wormholes; small repaired tear in margin). 18th-century vellum, title stamped in gilt on spine, speckled edges. Provenance: Bibliotheque I.G. Scorch (armorial bookplate).
