In her report, Dullaart describes the painting shown here as a work typical of Jacob Salomonsz. van Ruysdael in terms of composition, colour scheme and painting style. The characteristic signature also confirms his authorship.
The archive records contain a reference stating that the painting, formerly in the collection of Major Claude Daubuz, Buckingham Villa, Ryde (Isle of Wight), was sold at Christie’s in London in February 1940.
