Weite Landschaft mit Kirchturm und Burgruine
Unter grauen, stürmischen Wolken mit vereinzelt durchscheinenden Sonnenstrahlen erstreckt sich eine weite, flache Landschaft. Im Vordergrund rechts sind die Umrisse einer Ruine erkennbar, das Zentrum des Bildes wird von einem leicht nach links vesetzten Kirchturm bestimmt, während dahinter eine Windmühle und ein weiterer Kirchturm am Horizont zu erkennen sind. Dieses Landschaftsmotiv lässt sich auf zwei Werken van Ruysdaels nachweisen, die sich in der National Gallery in London befinden (Vgl. NG990 und NG2561). Assoziationen zu nordholländischen Landschaften um Haarlem, wo van Ruysdael aufwuchs und seine Ausbildung absolvierte, sind evident, doch der genaue topographische Standort sowie die Hauptkirche konnten nicht identifiziert werden, weshalb davon ausgegangen wird, dass es sich um eine idealisierte Landschaft handelt, die in dem vorliegenden Kabinettbild rezipiert wird.
