Als herausragender Marinemaler machte sich der Niederländer Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek in der beginnenden Hochphase der Romantik einen Namen. Seine enorme Kenntnis unterschiedlichster Schiffstypen, die er sorgfältig in kleinen Modellen mit Detailgenauigkeit nachbaute, festigte seine Reputation. So war er in der Lage, Marinemotive wie das vorliegende Gemälde ''Schiffbruch vor den Klippen'' von 1841 mit hoher Präzision zu schildern. In einer für sein künstlerisches Oeuvre typischen Komposition führt er den Betrachter zum spektakulären Schauplatz eines Unglücks.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
