Lot 165 | John Wisden (1826-1884).
Estimate value
£ 4 000 – 6 000
WISDEN, John (1826-1884). The Cricketer's Almanack for the Year 1868. London: Wisden and Maynard, 1868.

Fifth edition recording the first overseas tour by the M.C.C. Their match against the Paris Club at Paris on 22 and 23 April 1867 resulted in a comfortable win; disappointingly perhaps, it cannot be considered a victory over the French since most of the Paris team have obviously English names. Played in Islington on exactly the same dates was a game between two teams with a different disability. This bizarre One Leg v One Arm contest ended in a draw, big scores being made by both Birchmore with one leg and Redfern with one arm.

Octavo (156 x 104mm). [4], 112pp. (Light dogearing to first few gatherings, title with a couple of very minor marginal spots, verso of final leaf with extremely light and insignificant spotting.) Original printed wrappers (rebacked, light soiling and extremities faintly rubbed with some light dogearing to corners). Provenance: old mathematical notation lightly written in pencil on front and rear wrappers.
