Museales Porträt der Erzherzogin Sophie Friederike von Österreich
Stieler hat bei seinem großformatigen Bildnis die Erzherzogin dominant in eine gebirgige, oberbayerische oder österreichische Flusslandschaft komponiert. Das Bildnis zeigt zugleich ihre wesentlichen Charakterzüge und ihre Persönlichkeit - Schönheit, Intelligenz und Durchsetzungsvermögen, das sich im politischen Geschick und Einfluss ausdrückte. Stieler schildert die Erzherzogin in höchst selbstbewusster Pose. Der Mode und ihrem Stand der Zeit entsprechend trägt sie ein weißgraues Seidenkleid, eine kostbare Perlenkette und einen mit Rosenblüten geschmückten, eleganten Sommerhut, als modisches Accessoire einen leuchtend roten, übergroßen, reich bestickten Kaschmirschal. Das vorliegende, um 1835 entstandene, historisch bedeutende Porträt ragt aus mehreren Gründen heraus: es ist das erste lebensgroße, wiederentdeckte Ganzfigurenbildnis Stielers seit mehreren Jahrzehnten im Kunsthandel. Überdies stellte Stieler ausnahmslos nur Persönlichkeiten aus regierenden Häusern derartig dar. Um eine solche handelt es sich bei der Porträtierten. Sophie Friederike (1805 - 1872) war die älteste Tochter des späteren König Max' I. Joseph von Bayern und somit eine Halbschwester König Ludwigs I. 1824 wurde Sophie mit Erzherzog Franz Karl Joseph von Österreich (1802 - 1878) vermählt, einem Sohn Kaiser Franz' II. (seit 1804 Franz I. von Österreich). Sophies ältester Sohn Franz Joseph I. (1830 - 1916) war der spätere Kaiser von Österreich. 1848 erwies die willensstarke Sophie als der "Einzige Mann bei Hofe" ihren Führungssinn. Sie war am Sturz Metternichs, der Abdankung Kaisers Ferdinand I. und an dem Thronverzicht ihres Mannes zugunsten des erst 18-jährigen Sohnes Franz Joseph I. beteiligt. 1854 heiratete Kaiser Franz Joseph seine Cousine Elisabeth Herzogin in Bayern (1837 - 1898), die legendäre Kaiserin Elisabeth ("Sisi" oder später auch "Sissi" genannt), welcher die Erzherzogin Sophie durchaus gewogen war. Stieler war 1820-1855 Hofmaler der bayerischen Könige sowie einer der besten und gefragtesten Porträtisten seiner Zeit. Außer Bildnissen der Wittelsbacher-Familie, schuf Stieler die weltberühmte "Schönheitengalerie" für König Ludwig I., porträtierte die Herrscherhäuser Europas, Staatsmänner, Gelehrte und Künstler. Stieler hat die Erzherzogin Sophie seit 1812 mehrfach gemalt. Hierzu gehören ein Bildnis von 1825 mit ihrer Zwillingsschwester Marie in Landschaft und Dreiviertelporträt mit ihrem Sohn Franz Joseph von 1832. Öl/Lwd., doubl.; 193 cm x 135 cm. Rahmen.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
