John Deakin was a close friend of Francis Bacon and Lucien Freud. He started out as a painter (inspired by Chaim Soutine) but became best known for his photographs. Some of Bacon's famous paintings are based on photographs by Deakin. The wonderful portrait of a boy offered here was taken in Tahiti in 1938.
