Lot 3090Campanian rotfiguriger fish plate from the Robinson group of artists
Approx. 350 - 320 BC red-brown shards, black-and-white-painted. Base, slightly concave plate with a Central recess and overhanging, convex edge. Mirror with counter-clockwise floating bream and a torpedo rays, as well as the edge with the shaft band. Ber., minimally rubbed
H. 5, D. 19.5 cm.
Fish dishes are a special form of the ancient in the red-figure style of painted plate. Motives are always fish, or other creatures of the sea, usually in a very naturalistic execution. Characteristic for the Work of the Robinson-painter apply the projecting pectoral fins, and white under the old eyes of the bream, as well as the always-and-white contoured rays.

Provenance: acquired in the 1970s by Prof. Hugo Munster Berg, New Paltz; royal-athena galleries, New York, in 2007; since then private collection of a German noble family.
