Autograph list of corrections for Pole für 2 signed ('Stockhausen'), [before 1975]
A correction list for this chance-driven work for two performers with short-wave radios.

List of 32 corrigenda in three columns, in German and English, in black and red ink, signed in brown ink, one page, 297 x 421mm, the corrections checked off in pencil, on the verso of a negative proof of notes for Momente, 'Europa Version 1972'.

Provenance:
(1) Sotheby's, 7 December 2015, lot 188.

(2) Schøyen Collection, MS 5559/2.

The graphically-notated Pole für 2 was written in 1970 and designed to use material drawn spontaneously by two performers from shortwave radio broadcasts. It was first played more than 1,000 times at Expo '70 in Osaka by a number of different performers including the composer. The score, published in 1975, consists of a series of approximately 200 events incorporating plus, minus or equal signs which direct the performers to vary the inputs in relation to one of four musical parameters; it also includes directions for the spatial placement of the sound sources.
