Auf der Suche nach Ausdrucksformen, die es ihm ermöglichen die verborgenen elementaren Kräfte und Strukturen der Natur sichtbar zu machen, wagt sich Fritz Winter in den 1930er Jahren in die Gegenstandslosigkeit vor. Angeregt von seinen Lehrern Kandinsky, Klee und Schlemmer sowie von den romantisch-religiösen Ideen Marcs malt er zunächst ausgewogene, abstrakt geometrische Kompositionen. Um die Mitte des folgenden Jahrzehnts gelangt er dann in kosmisch-energetischen Bildern zu organisch-biomorphen Formen. Als er 1949 die Gruppe "Zen 49" mitgründet, in der sich die Künstler des Informel vereinen, nimmt er zwar die neuen Tendenzen dieser Kunstströmung auf, folgt jedoch bestimmt seinem eigenen Weg. Für diesen gibt ihm Hans Hartung wichtige Impulse, den er 1950 kennenlernt und der sich wie er selbst nun mit der Form und ihrer bildimmanenten Wirkung beschäftigt.

Unsere "Komposition Rot-Gelb" ist ein bemerkenswertes Beispiel für seine Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Thema. Anders als die informellen Maler setzt Winter seine Pinselstriche weder um den eigenen Seelenzustand noch um seiner individuellen Handschrift auf der Leinwand Ausdruck zu verleihen. Vielmehr verwendet er sie als ein allgemeingültiges, regelmäßig wiederkehrendes grafisches Gestaltungsmittel, wobei er Improvisation und Intuition bewusst zulässt. Mit ihnen schafft er Kraftfelder auf transparentem Farbgrund, die er in eine kühne Balance bringt, wie auch eine durchdachte Dynamisierung der Bildfläche, die er räumlich aus der Ambivalenz von Farbenergien und rhythmisierten Strukturen sowie zeitlich aus dem nachvollziehbaren Malprozess erreicht. Auf diese Weise will er uns einen Blick hinter die erkennbare Wirklichkeit geben, "denn es ist weit mehr sichtbar, als wir sehen können, und weit mehr hörbar, als wir hören können, und weit mehr da, als wir selbst sind. First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction.
