Lot 256 | Koro in Form des Bunbuku Chagama, Japan, Meiji-/Taisho-Periode
Estimate value
€ 3 000
Patinated bronze. Bellied, theriomorphic incense burner with the head, legs, and tail of a tanuki, lid pierced with a flower design, and two lateral handles, inscribed "Kimura Toun" on the underside. Height 24 cm, weight 8.7 kg.
The form of this koro refers to the Japanese folktale of "Bunbuku Chagama", the lucky teakettle, actually a tanuki (raccoon dog) which transforms into a teakettle in the story.
