A Sasanid glass beaker, 5th - 7th century
Glass beaker with a flat base and almost cylindrical wall. The outer wall decorated with two rows of flat oval knobs. At the bottom cross-shaped decoration from a mould. Due to age, the surface of the originally colourless to slightly greenish glass is clearly iridescent in places. One large fragment expertly glued. Chip on the rim in the area of the breakage. Diameter 10 cm. Height 5.5 cm.
Rare Sasanid cup form! Glass was an important Sasanid export commodity that reached China and Japan, among others.

Noppenglasbecher, sassanidisch, 5. - 7. Jhdt.
Glasbecher mit flachem Boden und nahezu zylindrischer Wandung. Die Außenwand mit zwei Reihen ovaler Noppen verziert. Am Boden durch Formplatte kreuzförmige Dekoration. Altersbedingt stellenweise deutlich irisierende Oberfläche des ursprünglich farblosen bzw. leicht grünlichen Glases. Eine große Scherbe fachmännisch geklebt. Im Bereich des Bruches Chip am Rand. Durchmesser 10 cm. Höhe 5,5 cm.
Seltene sassanidische Becherform! Glas war ein bedeutendes sassanidisches Exportgut, das unter anderem bis nach China und Japan gelangte.
