The 'Bayerische Königsservice' that is decorated in the Bavarian state colours blue and white and accentuated with gold was commissioned from the manufacture Nymphenburg on the occasion of the golden wedding of King Ludwig III and Queen Marie Therese Archduchess of Austria-Este. Originally the pompous tableware consisted of 326 parts and was designed by the sculptor Dominikus Auliczek. As its basic form it does not feature the common circle but a dodecagon. The rims of the service parts are each adorned by a plastically carved out row of pearls - hereby the service was first called 'Das Perlservice' (engl. The Pearl Service). The decor consists of round reserves that are kept in Sepia-Camaieu and show landscapes as well as buildings, to which the royal couple had a personal connection and which they associated with their life. Hereby, each part was individually enriched and inscribed on verso. Among the depicted places, there are, amongst others, the Schloss Leutstetten as the king's successful estate, the Schloss Wildenwart as political place of refuge for the royal couple during uprisings in Munich in 1918, the Villa Lindau at the Amsee as the family's summer residence or the queen's birth house in Vienna. After the royal couple's death the pearl service has been covered on the occasion of special festivities of the royal children until it was brought to Hungary during the war and was kept safe there. Today some of the original part of the 'Bayerischen Königsservice' are again in Leutstetten in the Free State of Bavaria.
