Technique: Ivory, carved. Partly other materials like bone or plastic.
Description: A cylindrical basket with a pair of rooster heads and a wide overhanging rim on both sides
forms the base for an elaborate bouquet of peonies, roses and chrysanthemums. The basket
is carved in openwork with more branches inside and stands on a vine decorated foot ring.
A triple curved handle surmounts the flowers, a pair of stylized phoenix birds on top, a
hook with a chain in the center. Accompanied by a small separate horned mythical creature
with scales on a chain with a hook.
Measurement: 5.5kg. H.53cm, w.74cm, d.40cm.
Frame/Pedestal: Fitting base from heavy dark wood.
Condition B/C. Branches partly broken off. Many separate parts.
Provenance:
Rhenish private collection, in the family estate since the early 1970s.
