Hybrid NFT (NFT + Performance + Software + Saliva)
For the first time, Lauren Lee Mc Carthy offers an NFT from her new series "Saliva". The collector participates in a saliva exchange with the artist that leads to the minting of an NFT.
Lauren Lee McCarthy is an artist examining social relationships in the midst of surveillance, automation, and algorithmic living. In this work, she examines ownership of and autonomy over bodily substances.
We have now been trained to regularly swab, spit, and give up ownership of our bodily substances to corporations and government-run centers. These fluids hold the data of our DNA, personal information, and identity. Lee Mc Carthy asks: "Can I as an individual human embody the role of collection center? Can we take saliva exchange back into our own hands?"
With "Saliva", the artist invites the collector to participate in a saliva exchange with her. The exchange will result in the minting of an NFT.
These are the terms of exchange:
- Your saliva will not be used for research.
- Your saliva will not be used to determine ancestry.
- Your saliva will not be used by insurance providers.
- Your saliva will not be used for reproduction of biological matter.
- Your saliva will not be used for criminal tracing.
- Your saliva will not be used to create weapons.
