Estimate value
£ 4 000 – 6 000
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. London: Victor Gollancz, 1963.
A particularly fresh example of the first edition, with Le Carré’s signature laid in, luxuriously housed in a pictorial morocco slipcase. The Spy Who Came in from the Cold was the first book to win both the Crime Writer's Association Gold Dagger and the Mystery Writers of America award, and it remains one of the most celebrated spy novels ever published.
Octavo. Publisher’s blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt (minor lean to spine, spine ends slightly faded), original dust-jacket (faintest wear at extremities, a few light marks on rear panel); housed in a custom red morocco chemise and navy, light blue and black morocco slipcase inlaid with a fittingly mysterious design showing a gentleman in silhouette above his long shadow.
