Stanislas Lépine was from 1855 in Paris, his painterly skills, he was largely self-taught. From 1860-75 he then worked in the Atelier of Camille Corot, and also the students. He was in close contact with representatives of the Barbizon school, such as Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña or Théodore Rousseau, from these, the painting "en plein air" - remains, however, always a loner. His landscapes are mainly drawn from the area around Paris and Caen and have a light and a reduced color palette. His interest in nuanced light effects Lépine power to one of the forerunners of impressionism.
