Unten mittig signiert. Öl auf Leinwand 89,9 x 104,2 cm. Rahmen. Lingelbach, gebürtiger Deutscher, verbrachte die meiste Zeit in den Niederlanden. 1634 zog er mit seiner Familie nach Amsterdam. Sein Zeitgenosse, der Kunstbiograph Arnold Houbraken, berichtet, dass er 1642 Frankreich bereiste und dort zwei Jahre weilte, bevor er nach Rom weiter reiste. Die vorliegende Flusslandschaft galt lange als italienische Landschaft bis sie 2008 durch Frits Duparc als Ansicht von Lyon mit dem im Norden liegenden Château de Pierre-Seize und der Festung Fort Saint-Jean identifiziert werden konnte. Dennoch lässt sich ein stark italianisierender Einfluss in der Behandlung des Lichtes und in der vorzüglichen Darstellung der Figuren feststellen, der an die römischen Bamboccianti erinnert. Es ist daher zu vermuten, dass Lingelbach das Gemälde unter Verwendung eines französischen Motivs dennoch erst 1650 nach seiner Rückkehr nach Amsterdam schuf.
