Lot 1709 | Macewen,W.
Garrison/Morton 431 und 4872. Heirs of Hippocrates 2107, 2108. Blocker Collection 252. - Cushing, M24. Norman Library 1404. Lilly Libr., Notable medical books, 235. Waller 6110 und 6112 (alle nur die Textbände). - Vgl. Leonardo, Lives of Master Surgeons, 264 f. "The atlas with its fifty-three outstanding photogravures was intended as a supplement to the text, but must have been published in a relatively small edition, as many owners of the text are not even aware that the atlas exists. Cushing considered Macewen the 'chief pioneer in craniocerebral surgery'" (Norman, Neurosciences, 314). - "Macewen's greatest work was in connexion with surgery of the brain. In the above book he included extensive case reports of 65 patients under his care, with details of operative procedures" (Garrison/Morton zum Textband). - "Macewen's greatest achievement is probably his foundation of neurological surgery... In 1893 he published his great work... an incredible record of ten years' achievement" (Heirs of Hippocrates).
