Lot 17 | MAIN MASS OF NWA 7383 – INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR REVEALED
Estimate value
£ 1 000 – 1 500
The exterior covered in a fresh black fusion crust, with nice salt and pepper interior visible on the cut face.

This meteorite originated from a basalt flow on or near the surface of the second largest asteroid in the solar system, Vesta (mean diameter 525 km). This body is located in the asteroid belt, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Scientists believe eucrites originate from Vesta, in part because it is the only large asteroid with a basalt-covered surface. In addition, data transmitted from NASA’s Dawn spacecraft, which orbited Vesta in 2011-12, supports this conclusion.
