A THANGKA DEPICTING THE HEVAJRA MANDALA - Tibet, 17th/ 18th c. - The centre depicts Hevajra embracing his consort trampling on various figures reclining on the lotus-base, his sixteen arms radiate around his body while the hands support each a kapala, his multiple faced head displaying wrathful expressions, flaming halo behind, surrounded by eight dancing dakinis belonging to his retinue, each placed against a lotus-petal set within the square palace, encircled from the inside onwards by a band of lotus-petals, the eight cemeteries representing the eight different levels of the mind and a border of multi-colored stylized scrolling flames. Framed under glass. - Important German private collection, collected in the 1970s and 80s, mainly acquired at Schoettle Ostasiatica, Stuttgart Publ. Thangka Calendar 1988, Wind Horse Publishing House, month June Minor traces of age, water stains
