Lot 5430 | Maresciallo d'Italia Rodolfo Graziani - persönliches Fotoalbum "Somalia - Harar - Addis Abeba"
Estimate value
€ 9 500
Absolut einmaliges Album mit größtenteils unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen, wohl von einer Reise Grazianis von Mogadischu über Harar nach Addis Abeba um 1937/38, also bereits als Vizekönig von Äthiopien. Historisch bedeutendes Album.
Maresciallo d'Italia Rodolfo Graziani - his personal photo album "Somalia - Harar - Addis Abeba"
Large and heavy album in landscape format with light grey leather cover, the pastedown endpapers with light blue silk lining. Gold printed title page with dividers between the separate stops, the individual pages with gold lines around the photos. A total of 119 pictures in 12 x 18 cm format, the photo prints with white borders in 17 x 23 cm format. Including photos of Mogadishu, the colonial life of the Italian occupiers, Graziani on the balcony at an event, parades, in an open vehicle, at the Apostolic Vicariate, photos of a dinner party (Graziani surrounded by ladies). Harar: Graziani in a train, attending a parade, at a wreath-laying ceremony, with locals, visiting his former command post with dedication sign "per la conquista dell'Harrarino". Addis Ababa: pictures of the city and people, attending a parade, giving a speech to his soldiers, at inspections or on train rides. Dimensions ca. 36 x 53 cm, weight 6.8 kg! The cover somewhat damaged, especially at the bottom, the lining partially detached.
Unique album with predominantly unpublished photographs, probably taken when Graziani travelled from Mogadishu via Harar to Addis Ababa around 1937/38, that is when he was already the Viceroy of Ethiopia. Historically significant album.
