Flämisch 2. Hälfte 16. Jahrhundert Maria mit dem Kind und dem Johannesknaben und den Personifikationen der Hoffnung und des Glaubens (Die drei christlichen Tugenden). Öl auf Holz. 67 x 128,5 cm. Restaurierung. Rahmen. Bildgegenstand, Komposition und Figurengestaltung erinnern an das Schaffen des Künstlers Jacob (Jacques) de Backer (um 1540/45 Antwerpen - vor 1600 ebenda). Dieser lernte in Italien die Werke seiner Zeitgenossen kennen. Gute Kenntnis besaß er von den Arbeiten Giorgio Vasaris. Backers Schaffen nach seiner Rückkehr nach Antwerpen ist deutlich geprägt von der Kunst des Manierismus spätflorentinisch-römischer Prägung. Eine Einordnung des vorliegenden Gemäldes in den künstlerischen Umkreis um Jacob de Backer liegt nahe. Restaurierungsbericht Prof. Paul H. Hübner, Freiburg i. Br., 16. Februar 1962 (in Fotokopie): dort als italienische Arbeit der Zeit um 1520 eingeordnet.
