A French marble panel in relief with Moses and the Ten Commandments, 16th/17th century
Panel crafted from different kinds of marble. The figure of Moses cut in white marble with flowing hair and raised index finger, his left hand pointing to two Tablets of the Law raised against the black background. These tablets finely engraved with the Ten Commandments in Reformist-Calvinist version (evident from the lack of images, which were prohibited by Calvinist rules). Small losses and restorations in places, crack on the right side of the panel. Metal frame on the reverse. Dimensions 68 x 86 cm.
