Matsumura Keibun lived in Kyoto and studied with his brother Matsumura Goshun as well as with Maruyama Ôkyo. He served the Buddhist Prince Shinnin, and lived in Myôhô-in, a Buddhist temple in the district of Higashiyama. After the death of his brother, Goshun, he inherited, together with Okamoto toyohiko solutions for the Studio in the Shijô street, as well as the management of the Shijô school. He was one of the most important artists from Kyoto and contributed to the fame of the Shijô school.
