In Motiv und Stil charakteristisches Werk Bergmanns, der mit Vorliebe ländliche Motive, Tiere und bäuerliche Arbeit schilderte. 1902-1906 studierte Bergmann zunächst an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin-Charlottenburg, 1906 setzte er sein Studium an der Akademie in München fort, wo er 1907 Meisterschüler von Heinrich von Zügel wurde. Dieser prägte ihn in der breiten, impressionistischen Behandlung seiner Landschaften und Tiermotive. Seit 1910 wurden Bergmanns Werke fast alljährlich im Münchener Glaspalast ausgestellt. 1912 übersiedelte Bergmann nach Haimhausen, wo sich eine kleine Künstlerkolonie gebildet hatte und er 1925 eine private Malschule gründete. Da Bergmanns Kunst der "Blut und Boden"-Ideologie entsprach, konnte er 1937-1944 an der nationalsozialistischen Propagandaschau "Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung" mit 19 Werken teilnehmen, wovon drei durch Adolf Hitler erworben wurden.
