Lot 4498 | Mehrfarbig bemalte Vase der spätklassischen Maya-Kultur mit figürlichen Darstellungen, 6. - 7. Jhdt. n. Chr.
Breite Vase aus beigefarbenem Ton mit Standring, darüber niedriger, gewölbter Bauch mit scharfem Umbruch, gefolgt von hohem, konkav eingezogenem Hals mit zwei horizontalen Registern. Rot grundierter Standring durch senkrechte dunkelbraune Striche metopenartig gegliedert, darüber der rotgrundierte Bauch durch waagerechte dunkelbraune Streifen eingefasst. Die beiden horizontalen Register durch dunkelbraune Doppelstreifen eingefasst, darüber die rotgrundige Randzone, die Randlippe wieder dunkelbraun. Im breiteren unteren Register zwei identische Bildflächen, links mit einem geschmückten hockenden Krieger und rechts mit einem Fabelwesen, welches das Maul aufreißt. Im schmäleren oberen Register vier durch senkrechte Linienbündel getrennte Bildfelder, die alle das gleiche menschliche Gesicht seitlich im Profil anzeigen. Höhe 22 cm, maximale Breite ca. 17 cm. Malerei mit geringfügigen Abplatzungen, sonst ausgezeichnet erhaltenes Gefäß der späten Maya-Klassik.
Dazu ein Thermolumineszenz-Gutachten aus dem Jahr 1994, welches das Alter der Vase bestätigt.
Provenienz: Nordrhein-westfälische Privatsammlung, erworben Anfang der 90er Jahre in einer französischen Galerie (Inventarkarte und zugehörige Fotographie der Galerie vorhanden).

Broad vase in beige clay with a ring stand, above which its low, curving belly shows a distinctive break, followed by a high, conical neck with two horizontal registers. Red-primed ring stand composed like metopes with vertical, dark brown lines, above which the red-primed belly is painted with horizontal, dark brown lines. The two horizontal registers are framed within dark brown double lines, above which is the red-primed top section, the rim once again dark brown. In the wider, lower register are two identical pictorial spaces, featuring a decorated, crouching warrior on the left and a mythical creature opening its maw on the right. Four image fields separated by vertical line bundles in the narrower upper register, all of which show the same human face in profile. Height 22 cm, maximum width approx. 17 cm. Slight spalling on the painting, otherwise well preserved vessel of the Late Classic Maya period.
Includes a thermoluminescence expertise dated 1994, confirming the age of the vase.
Provenance: From a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired at a French gallery in the early 1990s (comes with the gallery's inventory card and corresponding photographs).

First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
